Located in the northwest part of Ōno District, Gifu, in Gifu prefecture, Japan.  Shirakawa Village is best known for it’s style of buildings known as  gasshō-zukuri, or praying hands.

This mountain village is located at the highest peak on Mount Haku, so the practical reason behind the sharply sloped, prayer hands rooftops are to withstand the heavy snowfall.

From an aesthetic standpoint, the gasshō-zukuri juxtaposed with several shades of rich green is very pleasing to the eye.  It makes a warm and interesting wall mural, and works nicely with Asian decor.
